Oman Hydrogen Hubs — Powering the Future with Green Fuel
Oman’s vast deserts and strong coastal winds are being transformed into one of the world’s largest renewable hydrogen ecosystems — fuelling a global shift toward clean energy.
Under its Vision 2040 strategy, Oman is building several hydrogen-production hubs that will use renewable solar and wind power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting fuel can be exported as ammonia or liquefied hydrogen to Asia and Europe, replacing fossil-based industrial inputs.
Key sites such as Duqm and Salalah are being developed in partnership with international energy companies, featuring gigawatt-scale electrolysis capacity and integrated port infrastructure. Each hub includes desalination plants, dedicated renewable farms, and digital monitoring systems to ensure traceability of every produced molecule.
Oman’s green-hydrogen plan is not only about exports — it’s also about domestic growth. The initiative will create thousands of technical jobs, attract global investment, and reduce the nation’s reliance on hydrocarbons while maintaining its role as an energy exporter.
With abundant sunlight, strong wind, and strategic geography, Oman is proving that even traditional oil nations can lead the global energy transition — by harnessing clean molecules instead of carbon.
